Things To Do
Chester is an historic city on the border of Wales and England.
Its origins can be traced back to the founding of the Roman fortress
of Dewa in 70AD. After the Romans Chester developed into a busy
port with trade from Dublin. But the river Dee silted up and trade
declined and the city's development was frozen. Today Chester
is a major tourist attraction and shopping location.
Shopping - a boutique city
Chester has a host of shops ranging from modern high street stores
to the quaint backstreet antique shop. The city offers more than
1000 shops to choose from and this guarantees that there is something
for everyone's taste and budget. Just outside the city centre
is Cheshire Oaks which is huge shopping centre full of designer
outlets-well worth a visit to pick up a few bargains.
When you stroll round the city centre you will be impressed at
the quality of the modern boutiques and the also the number of
famous high street stores that all contribute towards your amazing

of days gone by.

CHESTER SPORT
FOOTBALL
Unlike many English cities, Chester is not famous for it's football
team. The football team is called
Chester City and plays at the Deva Stadium, which is a really
nice little ground not far from the city centre.
The club's colours are blue and white and they play in the lower
echelons of the English football league. One of their famous "old
boys" is Ian Rush who was transferred to Liverpool in the
1980's and he eventually became an Anfield legend scoring many
goals for the famous Liverpool football club. The club has a solid
core of supporters who turn up and support their team most weekends
and they are the mainstay of this friendly little football club.
Of course Chester is ideally situated between the two major cities
of Liverpool and Manchester and both these cities are home to
four of the most famous football teams in the world i.e. Liverpool,
Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City. If you fancy a
day out in any of these cities it is always worthwhile taking
some time to take the organised tours of their grounds, and to
also appreciate the history and traditions of these famous football
clubs.
HORSE RACING
Chester Racecourse has many meetings throughout the year and
the course is set in a very scenic situation not far from the
city centre and near the river. During the horse racing season
Chester is very busy and it is very advisable to book your Chester
Hotel well in advance of any of the meetings. A day out at Chester
Races with a few friends is always a very pleasurable experience.
GOLF
Chester is also very fortunate in that it is situated within
a short drive of a few stunning golf courses. There are a few golf
courses situated just outside Chester e.g Carden Park and the
Championship courses of Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales are
all within an easy drive of the city. e.g Royal Liverpool Golf
Club and Royal Birkdale.
TRAVEL AND GETTING AROUND
Chester is well served for public transport with buses in plentiful
supply running to all areas of the North West and beyond. The
local Chester Railway station is well placed in the heart of the
city centre, and you can connect to any part of the UK from this
location. Local train services are run by Arriva or Merseyrail
and the the time tables to cities such as Liverpool and Manchester
are frequent and conveniently timed. The national train service
to other parts of the UK is run by Virgin trains and a day trip
even to London is very possible as the jouney time is only circa
two and a half hours. Liverpool and Manchester are only about
an hour away by train from Chester.
